For most current mainland company records, the unified social credit code serves as the main registration and organisational identifier. Older documents may show legacy registration numbers, so dates matter.
Can the code change?
It is designed as a stable entity identifier. Corporate changes such as name or representative changes usually remain attached to the same code; reorganisations can create a different legal entity with a different code.
Why does a valid-looking code return no result?
Check transcription, image quality and whether the document concerns mainland China. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan use different registration systems. Historical or recently changed records may also require additional searching.
