What you can establish

Useful record signals

  • Business scope explicitly mentioning manufacturing, processing or production.
  • Registered address in an industrial site, with caution that registered and operating addresses can differ.
  • Production-related licences, environmental permissions or certifications tied to the same entity.
  • Patents, hiring, branches and corporate changes consistent with operating activity.
  • Import-export and customs-related records where available.

Evidence outside a company report

  • Live factory tour showing date, location and production line.
  • Independent factory audit or pre-shipment inspection.
  • Machine list, capacity records, quality system and worker information.
  • Samples, references and certification verification with the issuing body.

Why the distinction is not always binary

A manufacturer may trade products made by others, and a trading company may belong to a manufacturing group. The key commercial questions are which legal entity accepts the order, who controls production, who bears quality obligations and where payment goes.

Common questions

Common questions

Can business scope prove that a supplier owns a factory?

No. Manufacturing language supports the claim but does not prove current premises, equipment, staff or capacity. Use operational evidence for factory ownership and capability.

Is buying through a trading company always worse?

No. A trading company can provide sourcing, quality control, language and logistics value. Evaluate transparency, contract responsibility, margins and control of the supply chain.

Which entity should appear on the contract?

The entity accepting the legal obligations should be identified clearly. If manufacturing, exporting and collection involve different entities, document each role and relationship.

Start with the exact legal entity.
